Health Lifestyle

One of my goals when we decided to move to Puerto Vallarta was to get healthy…but, I’m not a “gym” person! Gyms have a “smell”…for me that “smell” registers “DANGER! LOOK OUT! Someone is going to throw a ball AT YOUR FACE and then hurl INSULTS your way!!!….RUN!” No, I prefer a better way to get healthy…I’ll EAT HEALTHY! There’s still a lot of New Orleans in me; food is VERY IMPORTANT to me! Especially, good and tasty food. Luckily, good and tasty food is synonymous with Vallarta. You know, when I lived in the States and bought a chicken at the store, that chicken was HUGE!!! Good grief, chicken breasts today are the size of small turkey breasts from 30 years ago! They are full of hormones and those hormones settled in right around my gut and ASS! In Mexico, when you buy a chicken at the market, it’s chicken! Not a chicken full of hormones. We also eat more seafood and fresh vegetables here. Kevin & I like to walk Wolfie down through town and along the Malecon. So, fresh food and walking have helped me drop 32 pounds in 17 months. Not bad, huh? So, there are lots of dining options to help with a healthy life style. Salud Super Food is owned by the adorable couple, Rita and Willy. Talk about a couple of sweethearts! These two ROCK! They also LISTEN to their customers. I was complaining last summer about no cold soups on the menu. Rita researched and came up with the bEST, ice cold, gazpacho EVER! They serve wonderful food including wraps, sandwiches and soups and salads. Their smoothies are DELISH! I love the Gasolina Verde with spinach, nopal, parsley, celery, pineapple, yogurt, green tea and orange juice! My favorite wrap is the Tailandes, mixed greens, cucumber, carrot and green onion with a spicy peanut dressing…you can add chicken. YUM! Pinata Juice Bar is a new place on Venustiano Carranza. It’s a really cool space the guys have created. They also have a small, men only, guest house behind the juice bar. Their Green Juice is my favorite, but I also like the beet and ginger. I’m happy to have the choices of healthy foods and I’m even more happy seeing the LBS go away! Juice bars are everywhere!
